Interference - A Unified Theory of Episode 8 & Transmission

In which I stubbornly make Episode 8 fit in with my previous fiction!

Interference

"We've lost him."

"What? What do you mean, 'lost him'? You just told me you had a strong signal!"

"His transponder has gone dead. It was transmitting a strong signal, and it seemed as if it suddenly just switched off."

"Where was he?"

"1973. He jumped again."

"Again? I thought you said he only jumped once."

"Three times, actually. We originally lost his signal in 2006, and then picked it up in 1973. It was difficult to find at first, but it stabilized and finally began getting stronger. We were actually able to make interactive contact briefly on a few occasions, but he seemed disoriented and unable to respond clearly to our calls."

"What were the other two jumps then?"

"We were surprized to see him jump just a short time ago back to 2006. We thought at first it was a malfuntion, but his transporter most definitely triggered. He was back in 2006 for a very brief period of time, but he didn't even make any attempts to contact us. We were going to send a local operative to pick him up, but before we could take any action, he jumped again. His transporter triggered, and we decided to search for him back in 1973. Amazingly enough, he was there, but his transponder went dead shortly thereafter."

"So that's it then. We've lost him. He's gone."

"I'm afraid so, sir."

The project supervisor sighed wearily and turned away, wiping his hand tiredly across his face. Then he turned back again abruptly. "Log it."

"Yes, sir." She turned to her monitor and switched on the voice recording device. "Tuesday, 10 April, 2612, 2100 hours. Operative Sam Tyler is officially declared missing, feared dead. We have had no contact and are declaring his case closed. This is Hyde Base, signing off."
